Hotel Il Giglio
At the center of Montalcino's history

Il Giglio was established in the late 1800s as a post station, where travelers could rest and refresh themselves, and horses recovered from the steep climb leading to Montalcino.
From that time on, Il Giglio has remained a central reference point in the everyday life of this town near Siena.
In its Sala dei Fattori the most important business dealings took place and the wealthy of the time gathered. Sooner or later, the hotel was visited by all the key figures of 20th-century Montalcino, amid wars and weddings.

We bring our passion, Montalcino provides the scenery...
The rest is up to you.
The hotel
The care for our guests

Il Giglio, a small family-run 3-star hotel, is housed in an ancient building nestled against the castle walls of Montalcino, the city of the Brunello wine. The hotel is located right where Montalcino, with its breathtaking views, overlooks the Crete Senesi and Siena.
The rooms, furnished with simple elegance and touches of Tuscan tradition, offer a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Every detail — from the solid wood furniture to the cozy fabrics — is designed to make guests feel at home. Some rooms boast stunning views of the surrounding hills near Siena, offering an unforgettable visual experience upon waking.

The restaurant
Anna's dishes

Dishes with ancient tastes meet the best products of our tradition. Lardo di Colonnata and fresh truffle are some of the main ingredients of Giglio's restaurant.
Every dish tells a story, time seems to slow down and aromas envelop the senses. Handmade pastas, dressed with rich and authentic sauces, pair with carefully selected meats and garden-fresh vegetables, in a perfect balance between rustic charm and refined elegance. At Il Giglio, tradition is not just a memory: it’s a living experience, to be savored with calm and passion.

The wine cellar
Mario and his wines

Mario started many years ago with less than 10 wine brands. Today, due to his passion, there's always too little room in our cellar and the pages in our wine list are never enough.
Each bottle is the fruit of patient waiting, of silent harvests and nights spent dreaming of aromas and nuances. The vineyards, caressed by the Umbrian sun, yield clusters that speak of land, of family, and of a love that needs no words. And so, among barriques and ancient barrels, time stands still and the wine comes to life, ready to tell its story to those who know how to listen.
